LET us remember we, the American people, reelected the Obama administration for another four years. Such an outcome did not prevent President Obama from stumbling through his first press conference in eight months removed quite a distance from reality.
In the second presidential debate, Barack Obama (with the help of tag-team partner Candy Crowley) boxed Mitt Romney’s lawyer-like attack into a corner about Benghazi. President Obama pushed to have put on the record, the day after Sept. 11, 2012 – in an infamous Rose Garden presser – Benghazi was a terrorist attack.
The press conference statement was related to the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, contextually. But the president of these confused United States got credit from the media he was speaking about the recent attack that led to the murder of U.S. Ambassador Christ Stevens, and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya.
Today, Nov. 14, during the president’s peevish press conference, Obama backed up Ambassador to the U.N., Dr Susan Rice’s testimony about Benghazi following those attacks some five days later. Secretary Rice’s testimony, however, towed-the-line that the Benghazi attack was a spontaneous uprising over a movie offensive to Muslims — not terrorism.
President Obama said Susan Rice had “nothing to do with” Benghazi.” In a press conference fawned over by the state-run media, inquiring minds, curious no doubt, might want to ponder why Dr Rice was sent out to testify in the first place. If Ambassedor Rice did not have anything to do with Benghazi, why was she sent out to testify about anything with intelligence untrue at the time?
That is the one of the many questions lingering. Was Benghazi a disgruntled North African movie review with live ammunition and mortars, or an al-Qaeda terrorist attack? Also, what the hell was Ambassador Stevens doing in Benghazi, supposedly fearful for his life, with such a minuscule security detail?
Lots of questions, but no answers.
The Obama administration has oscillated between both extremes. Meanwhile, the media has been a fifth column of incompetence; in the hands of the state, and worse, against hard facts being reported.
That reminds me. Whatever happened to the Woodward-Bernstein press pool — the Pentagon Papers, Watergate, the Nixonian imperil Presidency, etc.? Where is that generation, some 40 years ago, so concerned about the power of the state; radically speaking truth to power and not accepting the statist crap? Where is that free press, sifting through contradictions and government corruption?
The Obama administration is lying. And the people trusted with turning out such facts, the media — guardian of America’s secular conscious — have closed their eyes because of who happens to be president. And despite all this, despite the obvious glitches; the breakdown of the state, the American people in the aggregate have entrusted more and more of their personal lives into the comforting hands of the state.
And if this is true, the American people have even larger problems. Yeah, that Petraeus cat — remember him?
It should be said. Barack H. Obama is a terrible civil servant. He was not qualified in 2008; he is not qualified now. We are often told the American people in the end do the right thing in majority-terms. I don’t think so. We may be tempted to say President Obama is all the laudatory things the media says about him because the majority reelected him. But that would be a logical fallacy; an error. There was a time when such things were taught.
It is going to be a long four years.
